To protect reproductive rights for all people, including young people,
Illinois must becoming the 14th state to #RepealPNA.
Currently, there are thirteen states that do not punish, humiliate, shame, and put young people in danger who seek abortion care. Alternatively, these thirteen states have chosen to protect reproductive rights for all people by allowing them to access time sensitive health care.
Illinois is not one of these 13 states. On the other hand, Illinois clings to a cruel and dangerous parental notice of abortion (PNA) law that was authored by right-wing Republicans. In these 13 states, like Illinois, 85% of young people voluntarily involve an adult family member in their abortion decision. When that isn’t possible, these young people are able to safely access care without involving an abusive or violent parent. But, not in Illinois.
Everyone, no matter their age, must have access to the reproductive health care they need and deserve if we are striving to be 100% pro-choice. Illinois must become the 14th state to protect and help young people, not subject them to danger.
In conclusion, to truly protect reproductive rights – really, expand them – we must repeal Illinois’ parental notice of abortion law immediately. Thankfully, we have a real chance to do this before the legislative session ends this year. This is also when we will lose our chance for years to stand up for the young people in Illinois.
So, we need you. Help us protect reproductive rights. Help us repeal Illinois’ parental notice of abortion law. And, help us make Illinois the 14th state!
